The first Douglas Carnival procession for 15 years proved to be a step in the right direction for the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group.

Dressed in pink T-shirts, sponsored by Descon, the Island’ s leading office furniture supplier and also bedecked in pink wigs and pink shades, the striking ensemble raised a bumper £1310.87 during a Carnival parade bucket collection along Douglas Promenade. Donations came from spectators who lined the two mile route on the seafront. They were accompanied by the cuddly form of Booby Bear.

The Group is looking to raise £1.3m for a special Breast Cancer Care Unit at Nobles Hospital and are well on the way to hitting their target.

“We just want to say a huge thank you for everyone who kindly made a donation to us during the Carnival procession,” said Support Group Chairman Julie Stokes. “To raise so much money in the space of about an hour shows the level of support we have.”

A Descon spokesperson said: “Breast Cancer touches so many lives on the Isle of Man and I am delighted that we have been able to help this very worthy cause. We wish them continued success in reaching their fundraising target.”
